Apple never has revealed about internal spec for their products during the launch, and they did the same with Apple Watch. While everybody speculated on how much space was in the Apple Watch, its now confirmed that it comes with 8 GB of internal storage. What is even mire surprising is that you have limitations on how much of that space can be used for Music and Photos.
- Music : 2 GB
- Photos : 75 MB
This is valid for all the Apple Watch–Sport, Watch and Edition–so there is no premium even if you are paying 17,000 USD.
Now if you give it a thought on why is Apple restricting it, then there could be a couple of reasons.
First is they want to make sure that you have enough space left for your apps and the system apps. This will make your the apps are running smooth. Though I am sure many of us would want to offload their complete music collection, but it doesn’t make sense. Moreover its an extension to your phone, and not your iPhone.
Secondly, if they would have allowed you to store a lot of music, you will end up consuming your watch battery than connecting your phone to get the job done. The same goes for the images as well. You would want only your favourites to be on your wrist, which will work via iCloud Photo Library.
Watches are extensions, mostly, and this is how they should be used. They should be like your traditional watch which should be insight when you want it. If a consumer is allowed to do everything they would want, its going to be difficult. This may change in future, but for now, let it be an extension.
