At the special event in San Francisco, California, Apple finally unveiled the pricing of the Apple Watch, along with few additional features. Much like those rumors suggested, the Apple Watch Sport edition starts at $349 for the 38mm model and $399 for the 42mm model. The stainless steel version of Apple Watch starts from a whopping $549 for the 38mm model and $599 for the 42mm model. This can go up to $1,049 and $1,099 depending on the band they’re paired with.
And that 18-karat gold Apple Watch Edition will start at $10,000 and goes up to $17,000 at least! It’ll be a limited edition watch and will be sold in select retail stores. Pre-orders start on April 10th and can be picked up on April 24th. The Apple Watch will go on sale in nine countries – US, UK, Australia, Canada, China, Germany, France, HongKong and Japan.
For the uninitiated, the Apple Watch will come in two different sizes – 38mm and 42mm, and in three distinctive collections – Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch and Apple Watch Edition.
The Apple Watch Sport features a lightweight anodised aluminium case in silver and space grey with a Retina display protected by strengthened Ion-X glass and matching high-performance fluoroelastomer Sport Band in five colors.
The Apple Watch features highly polished stainless steel and space black stainless steel cases with a Retina display protected by sapphire crystal. It comes with a choice of three different leather straps, a stainless steel link bracelet and Milanese loop, and a black or white Sport Band.
And finally, the Apple Watch Edition features cases specially crafted from custom rose or yellow 18-carat gold alloys developed to be twice as hard as standard gold, a Retina display protected by polished sapphire crystal and a choice of uniquely designed straps and bands with 18-carat gold clasps, buckles or pins.
At this point of time, it’s tough to judge how different and how special the Apple Watch is as compared to the likes of Pebble or Android Wear devices. It does come with some unique features like digital crown which is an innovative way to scroll, zoom and navigate fluidly without obstructing the display, and Retina display with Force Touch which senses the difference between a tap and a press, providing a new way to quickly and easily access relevant controls.
Apple also announced that you can make and receive calls using the Apple Watch on your wrist, and it can also be a comprehensive fitness tracker. Apple is promising 18 hours of battery for the Apple Watch under normal usage. We shall be back with more details soon. So stay tuned!
