There have been several rumors about Asus joining the wearables race, and it seems they were indeed true, as Asus has started teasing a new product launch related to “time” on September 3 at IFA 2014. Below is the teaser image tweeted by Asus earlier today.
The image doesn’t reveal much as you’d expect, but has a subtle hint towards “Time” and “Change”. Previous rumors have hinted at an Android Wear based smartwatch launching sometime this year, without revealing the specifications and/or the features. Some of them even claimed that the Asus smartwatch will be the cheapest Android Wear watch, with a target price between $99 and $149. But Asus CEO, Jon Shih had said that the Asus smartwatch will be company’s ‘hero product’ and will come with a range of impressive features.
Going by anything Asus has done in recent past, we can expect the company’s smartwatch to have a greater focus on design and build quality, good enough to take on the Moto 360 (which is expected to launch a day later in Chicago). The teaser hints at a squarish design with heavily curved edges unlike the sharpened ones on Gear Live and LG G Watch.
September will be a key month for the wearables market, with smartwatches expected to be launched from Asus, LG and Motorola within the first week.
