Smart Toothbrushes are one of the many Internet of Things devices you’ll come across this year. Oral-B, the popular name in oral hygiene has jumped into the IoT bandwagon with their first of many connected toothbrush models. The Oral-B Smart Series power brush uses Bluetooth 4.0 to connect and communicate with your smartphone to deliver customised real-time brushing solutions and track progress.
The Oral-B Pro 6000 Smart Series currently works with iPhone, with Android compatibility due in August. The goal is to track all the data pertaining to the way you use the toothbrush, and help you be better at managing your oral hygiene. The Oral-B app is smart enough to be programmed as per the advice given by your dentist and build a personalized brushing routine.
Whether there’s a troublesome area that requires a bit more attention, you need to brush longer in certain quadrants or someone just requires a reminder to floss, rinse or tongue clean regularly.
The electronic toothbrush also features oscillating-rotating-pulsating technology, a pressure sensor and boasts six different cleaning modes: Daily Cleaning, Deep Clean, Whitening, Gum Care, Sensitive and Tongue Cleaning.
This is not the first time we are seeing a smart toothbrush. A few weeks back, we saw Grush, which is connected toothbrush for kids to teach them the right way to brush through a series of interesting and fun games. In comparison, Oral-B is reaching out to a wide audience with comprehensive feature set.
The idea seems nice, but the cost should put off most people. The Oral-B smart series power brush will start from £230 (~USD 388 or INR 23300). No matter how smart it gets, at the end of the day, it’s a fricking toothbrush! Oral-B is targeting the British to roll out this thing, but expect them to expand to other markets pretty soon. But the question is, who’s ready to spend that much of money on a toothbrush? Are YOU?
